A dental crown covers the entire surface of a tooth. When a tooth is badly damaged, dental crowns can help preserve tooth structure, restore tooth strength, and eliminate discomfort. Our experienced dentists expertly utilize natural-looking, porcelain material to fabricate dental crowns with the most aesthetically pleasing possible results.
If you are seeking treatment for one or more damaged teeth, or would like to discuss other dentistry and restorative dentistry procedures provided at our office, call us today. A consultation at our practice will help you determine if porcelain dental crowns are right for you.
How Do Dental Crowns Protect Teeth?
When a tooth becomes chipped or cracked, it is aesthetically imperfect and vulnerable to further damage or decay. A porcelain dental crown covers the entire surface of the tooth to prevent further damage. A dental crown effectively holds cracked teeth firmly together to create a strong biting surface and provides a protective shield against decay. Our dentists will carefully analyze your tooth structure to determine if dental crowns will provide an appropriate level of protection.
The Dental Crowns Procedure
Having a crown placed used to be a time consuming ordeal that lasted over two weeks with two separate visits to the dentist. The first visit meant making any necessary repairs to the natural tooth (i.e. removing decay, filling the cavity) then taking a mold of the natural tooth to be sent off to the laboratory. The patient would then be fitted with a temporary restoration and sent home to wait for their crown to be completed and sent back to the dental office. A second visit was later required to cement the permanent restoration in place.
We cut down this process to a quick, one-stop dental appointment. Utilizing advanced 3D photography and CAD/CAM technology, we create a virtual restoration. This virtual image of the tooth is then sent to a state-of-the-art milling unit- which quickly crafts a customized restoration in minutes. This restoration is then immediately placed over the natural tooth for a perfect fit allowing the patient to leave our office with a brand new, completely restored smile, often in just one visit.
